Did You Know That Jesus Promised the Holy Spirit?
Min. Adija Gaddy

I. Did you know Jesus Promised the Holy Spirit? Jesus promised the Holy Spirit because he desires for his spirit to be with you forever. The bible says in John 14:16 “that Jesus asks the Father, to give us another advocate to help us and to be with us forever which is the Spirit of truth”. In this scripture Jesus was explaining to the disciples the importance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus knew beforehand that the disciples and the people of God will need an advocate that can help us in the times of trouble. In the Bible Dictionary the word Advocate (in Greek is parakletos), which means someone who pleads another’s cause, who helps another by defending or comforting him or her. Did you know that Jesus wants to comfort you in life? Because he knows that you will face many trials on earth and he desires to see you through the hurt, pain and suffering that life brings.

II. God has put this word in my spirit because he’s longing for the people of God to allow the Holy Spirit to work in their life’s because he knows that when we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives we will have the power of God to do his will. The bible says in Acts 1:8 “that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us; and we will be his witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

III. God said one of the main problems is that he promised the Holy Spirit to teach us everything however; we haven’t allowed the Holy Spirit to work in our life. Did you know we must allow the Holy the Spirit to have full controll in our lives in order to receive all that the Lord has for us?

IV. Point 1- Build a Personal Relationship With the Lord
Did you know it is important to have a personal relationship with the Lord? The Lord wants you to have everlasting life. You might say to yourself I have a relationship with the Lord and I accept him into my life but, I haven’t allowed the Holy Spirit to work in my life or perhaps you may never accept the Lord into your life. This is your day to ask the Lord to come in your life and to fill you with the Holy Spirit.

Point 2- Follow the Lord’s Commands
In order to allowed the Holy Spirit to work in your life you must submit to the Lord and follow his commandments even when it feels uncomfortable. It is important to obey the Lord because it gives permission for the Holy Spirit to work in your life. Key point-when you allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life it kills the flesh man and it gives the spirit man more power. The bible say’s in Galatians 5:16-17, walk by the spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the spirit and the spirit what is contrary to the flesh. Meaning as you walked by the spirit you will be able to obey the commands of the Lord rather than please your flesh.

Point 3- The Benefits of the Holy Spirit
Following the Lord and allowing the Holy Spirit to take control there are benefits. Jesus said, “He promises to comfort the people of God and he will send an advocate that will comfort, help, guide and strengthen.” If you don’t have the Holy Spirit working in your life ask the Lord to fill you with his spirit. This will be the best thing that can ever happen to you.
