TIME
by Deacon Arthur Williams, Jr.

If you turn to Genesis the first book in the bible, the 1st chapter and the 1st verse reads, “In the Beginning”. Then turn to Revelation the last book in the bible, the last chapter, verse 20 reads, “Surely, I come quickly”. What

both these books and verses have in common is time. So I asked my self what is time.

For definition purposes time is duration, a period or a season. However, I found out that time is actually our most valuable possession. We can acquire all the possessions we want on earth but nothing is more valuable than time. The money that you lost can be replaced, the car that was stolen can be replaced and the house that burned down can be replaced. The time you wasted or lost is gone, never to be replaced. I’ve watched many football games. Seen where the officials stop the clock and even put time back on the clock. Did they really stop time? Did they really replace it? No, what they actually did was wasted more time.

I’ve come to the conclusion that what we do with our time is most important. Our time should have purpose, a plan and a goal; otherwise we are just aimlessly going through life. Psalm 90, verse 12 reads, “So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom”. In this text Moses wanted to know what was the purpose of his life? What was God’s plan for him? Not just that but God tell me what the plan is so I can live it and life abundantly?

Knowing your purpose in life regulates how you spend your time. Once you know your purpose you should be about the Father’s business just as Jesus was. If you are about the Father’s business then you don’t have time to waste on the little things. You don’t have time to sit up and gossip. You don’t have time to complain about the job, the kids and or your spouse. This is because you are too busy taking care of the Father’s business. I have yet to read where Jesus complained when he was on earth about the economy, the bills, being tired, the weather, the people at church, feeding five thousand, turning water into wine. No because he knew he was here for a season and during that season he had a purpose.

So I ask, “How are you spending your time?” Are you wasting it complaining? Perhaps you are busy climbing the corporate ladder; perhaps you are buying a lot of so called valuable assets. What is life? Life is time and we can only truly enjoy it if we know our purpose in Christ Jesus. For when it’s over, time will be no more. How are you spending your time?
