Adjust your Faith
by Fabian Kilbert
In Mark chapter 6 verses 37-44, Jesus blessed a multitude of five thousand with two fish and a loaf of bread. In Mark chapter 8 verses 1-10 he did the same works, through a dream, drawing, writing and word of mouth. Jesus showed them first hand so that their own mind, eyes, ears, mouth and heart could witness it and not have to doubt that he fed these multitudes. After experiencing these miracles first hand with Jesus, the disciples started bickering in the boat because they didn’t bring enough to eat. They had only one loaf of bread with them in the boat. As they were crossing the lake, Jesus warned them, “Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod”. At this they began to argue with each other because they hadn’t brought any bread. They missed God. Jesus was giving a warning to not fall into the trap of the Pharisees’ teachings. They were so engulfed in a natural problem that the spiritual blessing got neglected. Jesus demonstrated how to replenish one loaf of bread. If they were unable to duplicate the miracle for themselves Jesus was right in the boat with them. He did it for the multitude, why wouldn’t he do it for them? Their faith should’ve been in Jesus.
Yet the disciples established their faith in the wrong place. They had their minds consumed with eating; and God was teaching how to properly feed oneself spiritually. He sent them out two by two with nothing but sandals. They didn’t have money, shelter or food, yet they were focused on a loaf of bread not being enough to feed them. We miss God by carrying baggage that has nothing to do with the destination God purposed for us. Sometimes we’re guilty of trapping our faith in a situation where God has demonstrated the results multiple times. Because we weren’t satisfied we keep our hearts focused on it. It could be something we enjoy; and what we enjoy is out of season. We are still trying to figure out why we can’t keep it on our journey.
God is picking up a chair and knocking us upside the head. He’s picked out our clothes, put them in the suitcase, paid for the entire vacation, and we’re still at home. He’s telling the pilot “Don’t worry; we’re coming the next flight.” The pilot’s saying to Jesus “You’re stupid for constantly paying for this seat”. Jesus is still being an advocate for us. “This seat is reserved. This hotel is reserved. These tickets are reserved.” He is trying to move us forward. We have our faith tied up in something else. We tell God, “Well God if you do it in this order I’ll stop tripping off of it”. God is saying to himself, “Are you serious? How plain can I make it?” The Lord is trying to elevate our faith so that our spiritual man can soar to new heights.
The disciples were on the same levels. Watched Jesus feed the multitude and had the audacity to corral over the fact there wasn’t enough bread to eat. Jesus can’t move if our faith is established in a place where he’s not present. Your seat can’t stay reserved forever. God will give that paid vacation to someone else. He’ll say “He/she isn’t ready yet. They’re still putting their own selves in bondage. I’m going to book reservations with someone else”. Be ready. Stop focusing and putting faith in a place in your life where God isn’t present. There is a season for all things. God is always changing. He’s always doing a new work in us. Learn to adjust your faith. No matter how good or bad the situation is.
